Information for volunteer applicants

All volunteers need to complete a Volunteer Interest Form. This needs to be completed and sent back by post to the address on the form. We require your signature on the document and so are unable to accept this form by electronic mail. Volunteers also must be willing to supply two character references before they can take on a role with the EPT. All volunteers and staff are required to undertake a period of training. E-Newsletter Editor

Time Commitment: Around an hour a week

Equipment: Access to a safe PC with up to date anti-virus checking software; internet connection; an email address; Outlook or some other mail client, which will allow you to create an EPT alias from your computer (we can help you to do this - it’s not as hard as it might sound).

Knowledge of MS Word and Excel.

Job: To produce an e-newsletter six times a year, working with the membership secretary, editor of our annual publication TOPIC and other team members; to provide interesting and relevant copy, designed to maintain contact and inspire our our supporters and other interested parties about our work, the condition and developments within the field.

You will need to have:

Excellent writing/communication skills and a very good standard of English.

The ability to learn new systems as we will be using MailChimp.

The ability to work independently, whilst being a member of a busy team.

You will  need to be willing to attend the quarterly team briefings which are on the last Wednesday of the financial quarter, for two hours, to observe the EPT Facebook pages, Twitter and the website homepage, to source material and then rewrite it to form an an interesting E-newsletter.

All volunteers are expected to complete the EPT volunteer training programme, over time.

Internet Awareness Coordinator

Time commitment: Between 1 hour and 2 hours a week, depending upon your availability.

Equipment: Computer. Internet connection. An email address. Outlook or some other mail client, which will allow you to create an EPT alias from your computer (we can help you to do this, it’s not as hard as it might sound.)

The Job: There are two elements to this job.

The first is to receive notifications of internet articles which refer to ectopic pregnancy. For example this one. Where articles are produced on reputable websites or on press sites etc, to be the EPT link who adds information about how to contact The EPT, in their comment spaces and/or to contact them directly to ask them to add a link in their article to our website.

The second part of the job involves trawling relevant internet websites, establishing which ones we should ask to consider providing a link to their user groups. Contacting them on behalf of The EPT and asking them to add us to their list of helpful agencies or links. Agreeing the text t with a representative of The EPT and asking as liaison person with the site concerned.

Other requirements: Applicants should have a good standard of English. All volunteers are expected to complete the EPT volunteer training programme, over time.

Policy and Procedure Officer

Time commitment: Between 1 hour and 2 hours a week, depending upon your availability.

Equipment: Computer, a current/compatible version Microsoft Office.

The Job: Taking processes, identified by other team members and converting them in to the established EPT policy/procedure format: Coordinating the review of the existing policies and procedures.

Other Requirements: A basic knowledge of computing and word-processing will be helpful. Applicants should have a knowledge and or professional background in human resources or have been involved in the writing and/or maintaining of policy and procedure as a part of their professional life. Applicants should also have a good standard of English. All volunteers are expected to complete the EPT volunteer training programme, over time.

Trainee Helpline Operators

Time commitment: Between 1 hour and upto 4 hours a week, depending upon your availability. FULL TRAINING and extensive support is provided with this position.

Equipment: access to a telephone land line with an itemised bill; a secure PC which is regularly virus checked using a recognised checking software; access to the internet; access to an email account.

The Job: Talking via telephone offering support and information on a one to one basis, to a service user. Helpline operators both take calls directly or return calls. You would be the first point of contact for the service user and the position will require the full use of your listening skills and your ability to empathise with the caller.

Other Requirements: You should feel recovered from your own losses and not have experienced pregnancy loss in the last 12 months. If you have experienced ectopic pregnancy, two years should have elapsed since this time:  A basic knowledge of the internet will be helpful and you should have a working knowledge of a home PC system. Applicants must have attended the Grief and Grieving, Listening and Counselling Skills and the Managing the Media, training sessions. Applicants should have a willingness to participate regularly in monthly training conference calls and plan to attend all six elements of the training programme as soon as possible.

Forum Moderators

Time commitment: Anything from 1 hour up to 6 hours a week, depending upon your availability. A willingness to attend (conference call) training and be both supervised and mentored for around 1 hour a month is also required. FULL TRAINING and extensive support is provided with this position.

Equipment: access to a telephone land line with an itemised bill for training purposes; A secure PC, which is regularly virus checked, using a recognised checking software; access to the internet; access to a secure email account

The Job: Reading the posts on our forums and offering supportive responses which demonstrate both understanding and research based knowledge. (There is access to a comprehensive medical library for hosts and moderators to support them in doing this.)

Buddy Support Volunteers

Time commitment: around an hour a week. FULL TRAINING and extensive support is provided with this position.

Equipment: access to a telephone land line with an itemised bill; a secure PC which is regularly virus checked using a recognised checking software; access to the internet; access to an email account.

The Job: Talking via telephone or email offering support and information on a one to one basis, to a service user, who’d like one to one time with another who understands the impact of ectopic pregnancy.

Other information: Our Buddy Scheme Policy and Procedure will give a much greater insight in to this role.

Project 16-24 group members

Time commitment: around an hour a week

Equipment: access to a telephone land line with an itemised bill; a secure PC which is regularly virus checked using a recognised checking software; access to the internet; access to an email account

The Job: As a focus group member, you will be contributing to a forum where the group is actively researching, exploring and where possible, designing and engaging in appropriate information and support services tailored to the needs of the 16 to 24 year age group. The group’s objectives are to identify activities which will raise awareness and understanding of the causative risks and link factors of the condition and in so doing, to empower young people to prevent the infections which can cause ectopic pregnancy and infertility for themselves in the future.

Admin Support to Volunteer Coordinator POSITION FILLED

Time commitment: around an hour a week.

Equipment: access to a telephone land line with an itemised bill; a secure PC which is regularly virus checked using a recognised checking software; access to the internet; access to an email account

The Job: Communicating with volunteers by email and telephone to advise them of training dates, placements and other tasks considered appropriate by the Volunteer Coordinator.

Website Link Checker POSITION FILLED

Time commitment: Approximately 2 hours a week

Equipment: Access to a secure PC which is regularly virus checked using a recognised checking software, access to the internet, access to an email account on a daily basis.

The Job: The EPT website contains a number of links on all of its pages – these links can easily go out of date but if they are regularly checked, manually and we are notified of any out of date links, the EPT  can ensure that any link on our page remains current.
