News: Do women face a post-code lottery when it comes to the management of this potentially fatal condition?

Maggie Blott, Consultant in Obstetrics & Maternal Medicine and vice-president of the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists and Professor Bill Ledger, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Sheffield join Jenni Murray on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour, to discuss the issues.

Do women face a post-code lottery when it comes to the management of this potentially fatal condition?

One in eighty of those who conceive will have an ectopic pregnancy – where the egg implants outside the womb causing a serious threat to the mother’s health. The best surgical techniques can prevent future complications such as infertility – and can also speed up a woman’s recovery. Yet not all women are offered these treatments. Jenni Murray on BBC Radio 4 Woman’s Hour asks, whether women face a post-code lottery when it comes to the management of this potentially fatal condition.

Listen to the discussion between Professor Ledger and Maggie Block hosted by Jenni Murray and to Kate’s account. The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust extends our gratitude to Kate and her family for agreeing to be interviewed when we approached and asked her to participate in the programme.
