Sorry - I posted too soon!

Poppy has taken a bottle at bed the past two nights so we’ve had some improvement but she’s full of cold today so don’t know if that will upset her again. My spa evening is Friday so not long now. Just hoping she continues to take it ok this week. I still have to feed her a little after as the bottle doesn’t send her to sleep and she just screams if she goes into her cot awake.

We’ve got swimming tomorrow. Poppy absolutely loves it and one of the other babies from our NCT group goes which is really nice. She is full of cold though so I won’t take her if she’s still the same as I don’t want her getting cold and making it worse.

How’s Arielle doing with sleeping now?

I hope you have both had a nice weekend. Xx

I don't know if you all remember me, just wanted to let you know that I eventually had my rainbow baby on the 20/09 and we've called her Isobel.

Seems that I've missed a lot since not being on here, congrats to you too Nicola.

Hope the rest of your babies are well.

Thanks Nicola, Isobel is 9 days old now. The sleepless nights are hard but her beautiful face makes it all worthwhile! Any tips for making it through the night not feeling shattered or is it something you just have to battle through?! Unfortunately breastfeeding didn't work out for me as the support to latch her on properly didn't work out and my boobs were really bleeding and sore so she is formula fed which I'm upset about but managed to get the colostrum down her which is something I suppose. Just got to think as long as she's fed that's all that matters at the end of the day. Never ever thought I'd be holding my baby though, my pregnancy wasn't straightforward either, had bleeding and high blood pressure throughout, blood pressure still playing me up now. So all in all glad she's here safe and sound. How's everything going with you and your little one? You'll be thinking about number 2 soon, ha! X x

My only advice is it does get better. I genuinely thought I might die from sleep deprivation in the early days.
My husband used to stay up until 11/12pm and I would go to bed at 7 and get a few good hours sleep then I would be up and some nights it would be 4/5 before I got another hours sleep. If I really struggled my husband would have her at 7 for another hour or so.

So sorry breastfeeding didn’t work out. I transferred to a specialist hospital so I could get some support and they were invaluable- I couldn’t have done it without their support and advice. But ultimately happy baby happy Mum so you have to do what’s right for you both and sometimes these things are out of our hands. We’ve combi fed from a few months old (with a month or two where she wouldn’t take a bottle) so my husband always gave her a dream feed at night before bringing her up.

My pregnancy was also difficult, I had gestational diabetes and she was breech so I had to have a c-section (I really wanted a natural birth) but I knew getting her here safely was the most important.

Poppy is 8 months on Monday and whilst I enjoyed the newborn stage, I absolutely love it now, she’s crawling around and such a character.

Definitely need some time before number 2  I need to top my sleep bank up.

Definitely try and get out when you can though (when you are up to it or course). It can be hard being on your own with a baby all day and even just a walk gets you both or and will help you not go stir crazy.

I bet she’s adorable though! Xx

So it sounds like you just have to battle through the sleepless nights and come out the other side, ha! At least the sleepless nights hasn't put you off having another one!

Poppy is such a beautiful name and can't believe she's 8 months old, time flies! Christmas will be extra special this year, won't it.

I just can't believe this baby girl is here, 3 years it's taken, thought it would never happen! X x

Keeponhopping - time really does fly. The sleepless nights do get better, although I’ll be honest it’s only from about 7 months Poppy’s sleep improved but each baby is different. I’ll pray it’s earlier for you :D

It really is the best thing in the world being a Mummy. Have you got much time off work? I’m not back until January when Poppy is 11 months.

How are you finding it all? Are you feeling ok? It’s such a massive thing for your body to go through. Xx

Work automatically give you a year off so we'll see how we get on when maternity pay reduces etc as you have to give a months notice if you need to go back sooner.

Yes, giving birth is quite an experience, ha! My waters were broken in the end due to a heavy bleed and my blood pressure. So from the time my waters were broken, she was out an hour later, so was fast and furious!

My tiredness is taking over a bit, I do feel a bit death like at the moment as Isobel is quite restless and not sleeping much by day or night and feeds like a milk machine and wants to be held constantly, the minute you put her down to sleep she wakes up crying again. I suppose it will just take a while to get into a routine as she's only 2 weeks old, bless her. X x

Hey Ladies, sorry for taking long to reply. Arielle n I have both been ill past week with bad colds. It's been especially hard wknd coz my bf has been away at his October beer festival in Germany n I'd been up in the nights with Arielle screaming n having to keep giving her calpol. We both on the mend now thankfully so I'm hoping we'll be back to normal soon.

Nicola I hope u enjoyed Ur spa wknd away for Ur bday.. Ur pics on FB look really lovely n like u had a nice time away.

Wow that's amazing how well Ur getting Poppy to sleep at night n it's really good she's now taking a night bottle again.. I hope she's continue to take it n sleep well.

Arielle still will go to sleep in her bed after me or her dad get her to sleep.. she has her little routine with her bedtime stories n watching night garden n then listening to her sleep play list but even if she's tired shel fight sleep n Can take up to an hour to go to sleep. She's still waking in the night n ending up in bed with me n wakes up alot so I'm not getting great sleeps, but I'm managing to get her to bed a bit earlier than before so hopefully it will get better n one day soon she'll sleep in her bed the whole night n stop waking up so much.

Wow Kate it's great to hear from you n massive Congratulations to u on birth of Ur baby girl n she has a beautiful name. I'm so happy for u.

I'm sorry u had such a traumatic birth .. it's Def something u never forget. I hope ur healing ok n u n baby are well. I bet she's adorable.

I remember with Arielle as much I enjoyed being pregnant. I found it hard having pelvic girdle pain n I could hardly walk for last few weeks of preg coz of it. ThenI went 2 wks late n was induced n had to have my waters broken n labour was about 38 hrs.. I had to quickly have her in the end in theatre by forceps coz they thought I may need c section coz baby was distressed n low blood pressure but then I had her really quick at the last minute n threw up just before I had her n ended up with an infection n lost do much blood I was kept in for 5 days n put on a drip n medication before I left.. it Def can be a scary experience that u don't forget.

I hope u are enjoying motherhood n doing ok. I'm sorry u had probs with breastfeeding Ur baby.. Ur right that it's great she got the costium from breastfeeds at the beginning n Ur right asking as shes fed n healthy is what's important. I'm so happy for u that u have Ur rainbow Beautiful baby girl. I hope u start getting more sleep.. it Def does take time to get in a routine n It sounds like ur doing really well.

Even now with my daughter being a toddler she's never been a great sleeper as always fights it so I try get a nap Wen I can some days or Il go insain.

I hope everyone n babies are all ok.

I can't believe Arielle is going to be age 2 next week 15th October in just 6 days now. It's Def gone very fast. X X x

I remember those days well. Thinking they have settled and then bam eyes wide open as soon as they hit the Moses basket: a few things that worked for us was a love to dream swaddle (like a sleeping bag) it means it’s not so cold when they are put down and we also warmed the Moses basket with a hot water bottle before putting her in. Also I used to put a top of mine on the mattress so she could still smell me. There was still times were I would be up until 4am just trying to get her to stay in the Moses basket and she was so restless - I also struggled to sleep through any noise. My husband used to sit downstairs with her until 12 and I would go to bed at 8 to get a few hours sleep. It does improve though I promise. I think by about 6 weeks we had a routine and she would be asleep for 7/8 most nights and we would do a dream feed and then she would sleep from that around 10:30-2:30ish. It was always hard to get her back to sleep after that though and she would just roll around grunting! Xx

Toni - I can’t believe Arielle will be two next week! How is that possible?

Sorry to hear you haven’t been very well. There’s so many horrible bugs and things going around at the moment.

My spa weekend was lovely thank you. It was nice to be able to go out and relax and my husband did so well getting her to sleep.

Poppy is sleeping so well mostly - she’s had a few nights where she’s fighting it or won’t go back to sleep when she’s woken at 2/3am but on the whole she’s doing really well.

I’m glad Arielle is settling a bit earlier for you and hopefully it won’t be long before she sleeps in her own bed all night. My friend had just done a reward chart for her little girl and she gets a little reward if she stays in bed all night and then at the end of the week if she’s done it again she gets a bigger reward. It’s really working well. Do you think that’s something that might work without Arielle?

Xx

Hey Nicola,

I know it's crazy that now Arielle is 2yrs old... It definitely has gone fast. Part of me wishes she was a baby baby again but at same time all the milestones in Ur children's lives are great. Obviously a whole year makes such a difference. She's such a chatter box now n I can't imagine her not talking.

I wasn't well enough to go out on her birthday .. had the worst headache which had alot in past couple weeks. But Arielle had a lovely day playing with all her new toys n her dad had the day off work to spend with us.

We were going to take her to sea life centre in Brighton as always wanted to go there n I thought she would love it n we were going to go yesterday but there was no trains all the way, wed have to get replacement buses would take a long time.

So we took Arielle to Tulleys farm yesterday instead where they had a Halloween special there. She couldn't do everything there coz I think it's more for older kids from atleast age 3 but she was able to do some things there so it was good to get her out for the day n she enjoyed herself.

I took Arielle to a soft play adventure land place other day which she really enjoys.

Thank u.. I'm over my cold now n so is Elle.. just still got bit sore throat n cough.

I'm really glad to hear you had a lovely time at Ur spa weekend n that Ur husband did do well with Poppy getting her to sleep.

I'm really pleased to hear that Poppy is doing so well most nights with sleeping is really good for u all.

Thank u.. yea it's good Arielle is going to sleep a bit earlier n yea me too I really hope she'll start sleeping through the whole night in her bed soon.

Most nights I'm use to her getting in bed with me about 1am or sometimes a bit earlier.

I think she's started having night terrors coz other night she did well n slept in her own bed until 4.30am apart from waking about 11pm after about 2hrs sleep but her dad had got her back to sleep in her bed.

Then at 4.30am I was asleep n I woke to her screaming in her bed. I couldn't settle her n she was trying to jump out of my arms.. I tried giving me water or calpol but she didn't want anything. She was crying like she was over tired n do upset . I gave her cuddles n walked around the bedroom with her back n forth n it took about an hour to calm her down n get her back to sleep with me in my bed.

Then last night she went to sleep at 9.15pm n woke about 1am n came to sleep in bed with me n woke a few times like moving around like she does n then at 6.20am she woke up screaming. She was freaking out n wouldn't let me cuddle her or hold her but in the end she let me cuddle her n then calm her down n she just lay in bed with me until about 7am then I changed her nappy n got her a bottle of milk n red her books n she was her normal self again. I really think she was having night mares coz she was freaking out n I think she could see things she was reaching out to my face like she wanted to grab it but she wasn't close enough. She loves to play with my hair for comfort so I put some in her hand but she went more mad so I think it was bad dreams n hope it doesn't keep happening.

Thank you for idea re reward chart.. I made one that I used for kids at nursery at my old job for good behaviour which worked. I don't think it will work for Arielle yet thou coz she's bit little to understand.. mayb wen she's lil older like maybe 2.5 /3 yrs old it could work. Plus in the night she just gets too upset n want's cuddles n it's hard to reason with her to stay in her own bed Wen she's fast asleep.. thanks for advice thou..it may work with her when she's bit bigger.

I hope u n Poppy are ok n I hope all u other ladies n Babies are ok X X x

Hi Toni,

So glad she had a good birthday and hopefully you will get to go to the sealife centre one day in the future. We went to the one in Birmingham and it was really good. Poppy was probably a little young but she loved all the bright colours and the movement.

I’ve heard quite a few people recently taking about babies having buggy terrors - I think it’s quite common and lots of people say they are screaming but not really awake so it’s hard to calm them down. I have a dream catcher in Poppy’s room - maybe you could try one of those. They are supposed to help but I believe in those sorts of things.

Poppy’s been waking around 4 the past few weeks but doesn’t want to go back to sleep: it’s hard as she is in Bed for 7 so is sleeping from 7-4 which is amazing but hard getting up so early. This morning she woke at 3;45 and had a feed and did go back to sleep until 6 which is good. I hope the clocks changing tonight doesn’t mean she will be up at 3am!

My husband is going out tonight - I can’t go as poppy will only have a bottle from me or my husband but I don’t mind as she’s only little once and I can go out from time to time whilst my husband puts her to bed.

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Xx

Hey Nicola, sorry for late reply.. keep meaning to get on here.
I hope you and Poppy are well.

Awww thank you, yes I'm glad Elle enjoyed her birthday. That's lovely that You took Poppy to sea life centre n she was still able to enjoy it being so little.
Yea definitely i hope to take Elle to a sealife centre one day soon.

Really have you... Yea IV heard that night terrors Can be quite common in lil kids. She's had it about 3 times over the past weeks so I'm glad it's not happening all the time. Thanks for tip re dream catcher.. yes I believe in them too n I use to have one.. not that it really worked for me. But I could try getting one for Arielle.

The other week Arielle was wide awake in the night for like 3/4 hrs n she wasn't I'll or hungry but she just wouldn't go back to sleep was so frustrating.

I actually took her to the doctor's last week about it n Doctor said it's completely normal n by time she's 3 her sleep will be alot better. Thank goodness she hasn't been up in the night like that since.

She's still been waking at night but she's been staying in her bed for longer periods of time.. it still takes like an hour to get her to sleep in her bed n she still wakes up sometimes but I'll try geth back to sleep in her own bed.

Sunday night she didn't go sleep till 10pm.. her dad was looking after her coz I went to my friends baby shower n I can't believe I drank a whole bottle of prosecco. I think coz I don't get out much n don't feel so confident going out. Anyway I got quite drunk n Wen I got back at 8pm Elle was still awake. She wouldn't take her bottle of her dad so I had to give it to her n then her dad got her to sleep by 10pm coz she still fights it. Coz I had drank too much I actually got sick n I slept on the sofa til 1.30am n Wen I went to bed I prayed for Elle not to wake up n luckily she actually stayed in her bed til 8.15 am.. I can't believe she stayed in her bed for 10 hrs. She did wake up about 3 times n even sat up but she got herself back to sleep each time. Then the next night she slept in her bed from 10pm til 4am before waking n crying n coming to bed with me. Then last night she went to sleep about 9.45am & she slept in her own bed til 7.30am this morning so nearly 10 hrs. So she really has done so well the last 3 nights n must be getting more use to her bed n I really hope it continues.

That's really great that Poppy will sleep from 7pm til 4am.. but must be really hard for her to have you up at 4am. I hope she'll start sleeping a bit longer for u n go back to sleep Wen she gets up.. 4am is too early to start Ur day. She's doing so well to go to sleep at 7 and to sleep as long as she does.

I hope the clocks changing didn't mess up her sleeping. I don't think it affected Elle as her sleeping wasn't good at that point anyway.

It's hard Wen u n Ur husband can not both go out on the same night coz of Poppy's bottle.

For me its my bf goes out more than I do but it's always me who gives Elle her bottle is why she wouldn't take it from him the other night.
I'm going out for my friends 40th birthday party on Saturday so I'm hoping Elle will take her bottle from her dad coz I want to go out early enough so I can leave early as it's quite a long journey by train n then tram. So I don't want to leave too late.

Even thou I'm so great full to have had 3 nights of Elle sleep well. She's suffered from being constipated recently n IV given her meds which I think has helped. I had to as she actually cried Wen went a poo as it hurt so much.. I felt so bad for her. I literally had to false her to take the lactlose meds as she wouldn't take it but I knew it would help her go.

She has become do fussy n stopped eating slit of foods she use to eat.. so I'm finding it hard as really struggling to give her food. She's ok with breakfast n lunch it's dinner food she's become so fussy with n just refuses things. She loves pasta n rice but I think eating it too often is making her constipated. She use to love eggs n beans but won't eat them now. Shel eat bread n yogurt but refuses vegetables n fruit now oh n. Shel still eat wheatabix.
Il keep trying her with things n really just hope she'll grow out of it coz she can't just keep eating pasta n rice is making her too constipated. Oh n shel eat chicken .
Anyway sorry for going on so much.

I hope u n Poppy are well n that all u ladies n bubba's are well n you all have a good week X x x

Hi everyone, Isobel will be 8 weeks old on Thursday, can't believe how quickly the time goes! My body is finally getting acclimatised to night feeding, ha! She's generally sleeping well during the night which is good so I can get some sleep too! We have Isobel's first immunisations next Thursday so not looking forward to that! Can't believe it's Christmas next month, so much has happened this year and another year is nearly over. Hope everyone's ok. X x

Hi Toni.

That’s great Arielle is sleeping so well in her own bed now. And even better if she’s waking and then going back to sleep.

Poppy isn’t doing too badly. She’s been sleeping 7-4/5 some nights and other nights she might wake for a feed around 2 and then sleep until 6. Although last night she was up 2-4 she did sleep until 7 when she went back to sleep. I hope that doesn’t happen too much when I’m back at work.

I’m not surprised you felt poorly after a whole bottle of prosecco - I used to be able to have that much but definitely wouldn’t now. I have my works Christmas party in a few weeks and my husband will be looking after Poppy so will be nice to have a few drinks. I also have my husbands too in two weeks. We’ve been trying to get my Mum to give Poppy a bottle and settle her to bed so we can go but she just screams when my Mum tries so not sure if I’m going to be able to go yet.

Have you tried mixing a little amount of fresh orange juice in some water for Arielle - my friend swears by that for her little boys constipation.

Keeponhoping - I can’t believe it’s been 8 weeks already.

The first set of immunisations are definitely the worst and they do get really upset but lots of cuddles will fix that. I hardly slept that night as I was so worried about Poppy but she slept fine.

You definitely do get used to the night feedings - I wake up every 2/3 hours still now even though Poppy usually sleeps until at least 2am. I can’t imagine sleeping for more than that in one go ever again, maybe when she’s 18.

I can’t believe it will be Christmas soon, in one way I’m excited as I love Christmas and it’s Poppys first but also a little apprehensive as once it’s over I’m back at work and I just can’t imagibe being away from Poppy at all at the moment.

I hope everyone has something nice planned for the weekend. X

Hi ladies,

Nicola yea it was great that Arielle was sleeping well n her own bed n getting herself back to sleep after waking.

It didn't last unfortunately.. I think since I last message she's slept through the night one more time n another night she slept through in her bed til 4am but most nights shel go sleep in her bed about 9pm n she may wake up couple hrs later some nights n will need help getting back to sleep which shel do quickly. But then most nights shel still wake up n end up in my bed. I just hope she'll grow out of it.

She's had a bad cold for a week now.. she's lil better than she was n it affects her more at night so I know she's definitely going to be waking up most nights with a cold. In the daytime she's full of energy still n she's getting cheeky n naughty most days.. I guess is a normal phase to go through at age 2.

She's so cheeky coz Wen we go to the shops she will take off her shoes n socks n throw them on the floor..n tries to throw her blanket on floor too. I think at this age they just try to push u buttons. I take snacks with me Wen we go shopping is only thing really that helps her to behave more.

Il be glad Wen her cold is gone coz she is really bunged up n I have to put vapour rub on her to help her sleep.

She's definitely more clingy with me since poorly n where her dad has been getting her to sleep alot lately.. twice this week she wouldn't let him n she got really upset coz she wanted me to get her to sleep. So I did instead.

That's great that Poppy has been sleeping 7-4/5 most nights.
That must be hard drive wen she wakes up in the night for a couple hrs.. I guess coz she's still so lil she wants her nights feeds still.

Yea Definitely I hope she won't keep you up in the night when u have to return to work. I can't believe you are talking about when you return to work.. Ofcourse I can imagine you Don want to have to be away from Poppy.

I know it was horrible to feel so I'll after a bottle of prosecco.. I won't be doing that again.

Oh that's good you have it's n Ur husband's Xmas dos to look forward to. I hope ur able to go to Ur husband's do. It's so hard Wen Ur baby won't take her bottle of anyone but u n Ur husband. I hope Poppy will take it off Ur mum so u can both go.

Thanks for advice re fresh orange juice with water for Elle.. Il try that. It's just hard to get her to drink anything other than water or milk but I'll try it. She's still been constipated but not every day. I'm hoping this extra fussy eating is just a phase.

Keeponhoping I hope u n bubba are well. I can't believe Ur little Isobel is 8 wks already or she must be about 10 wks nearly now I think. I hope her injections went ok n it didn't make her to poorly. I know it's not nice for you or bubba.. I was always the same with Arielle having her I jections n I'd be so relieved Wen it was over n give her lotsa cuddles n kisses after is all u Can do n they forget so quickly but I know it's still hard to take them for them.

I'm glad to hear Ur bubba is sleeping well at night for you.

It is crazy how close Xmas is.. it comes so fast.

Hi Toni,

Did you manage your night out? I hope so. I went out for my husbands birthday. I put Poppy to bed and then went out around 7 and was back at 11:30, Poppy woke up at 12 and didn’t go back to sleep until 2 so I only had 4 hours sleep but I actually didn’t feel too bad. I just had an early night on the Saturday - I think you get used to a lack of sleep.

Is Arielle sleeping any better? I hope her cold has gone. Poppy has had a horrible cough and cold the past few weeks and even lost her voice. It seems to be getting better now though.

I can’t believe it’s Christmas so soon, this time last year I was thinking about finishing work and now I’m thinking about going back.

Keeponhoping - how is Isobel? And how are you? I’m going back to work for 2.5 days a week (job share) so it doesn’t feel too bad as it’s a nice balance between work and having some time with Poppy before the weekend and my husband is off. Luckily we could have managed if I didn’t go back but I think it will be good for us both and I can’t imagine not having any money.

How are you finding everything?

We are off to winter wonderland in London this weekend. I am so excited. X
