Feel so empty

Post by Dragonlady »

Feeling lost and don't know how come back. Found out last Tuesday that I was pregnant after 2 and half years of trying only to be rushed in to hospital this Monday to be told that it is an ectopic pregnancy and that I needed emergency operation as it has erupted. Was in surgery with in 20mins of them finding out that it was an ectopic pregnancy.
It all happened so fast my husband did not have time to get to the hospital before I went down so was going through it all on my own (was still in surgery when he did get there)

Hurting so much don't know how to cope as every time I move I am in pain which reminds me that there was a baby

Sorry I am new and don't know where else to turn to

Dear Dragonlady,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss. To go through the diagnosis and surgery alone must have been such a scary experience and my heart truly goes out to you.

When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it's treatment, reduction in fertility, concerns about the future and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense. Your feelings are completely normal and we are all here for you.

Experiencing an ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you are in the very early stages of recovery. Your body needs time to heal from your surgery which is in itself a gruelling task. You have also had to process the loss of your baby and been through an immense rollercoaster of emotions - all of this will take time to come to terms with.

We advise that you should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for how ever long you need. It is important to listen to your body's signals and pain and feeling tired are your body's signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.
It is normal to experience some pain as you recover over the next few weeks and pain and bruising is part of the healing process. The discomfort should reduce over the next few weeks and I would suggest taking the pain relief that has been prescribed for you as directed by your doctors.

There is no time frame for emotional recovery, please do be kind to yourself and allow time to grieve,

Sending much love,
Karen x
