Period pain or not?

Post by fmt1988 »

I'm just after a bit of advice really and was wondering if any of you could help me. This is my second period since my ectopic rupturing which resulted in having my right tube removed. I usually get really bad period pain but I haven't seemed to have any period pain at all. That's not what concerns me in the slightest, what does concern me though is that I'm getting horrendous pain on my right hand side right where I had my tube removed and it doesn't feel like period pain at all. Both times this pain only lasted a couple days but it doesn't feel normal. Has anyone experienced anything like this and how long did it last? The first time this happened I called my epu and I was told not to worry and to keep an eye on it but they couldn't really give me a reason behind it.

Dear fmt1988,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific information on your symptoms.

Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal over the last few months. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through. If you find you experience offensive smelling discharge or an increased temperature of more than 37°C or just want to be checked out to be on the safe side, it would be worth asking your doctors to run tests to check for infection.

I think it may be worth keeping a pain diary to record when you feel the pain (including when in your cycle), its intensity on a scale of 1-10 and if anything helps such as rest, a hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. I would suggest keeping these notes for about 4/6 weeks and then seeing your doctors with this information as it would help them determine how best to manage your symptoms.

Sending much love,
Karen x
