cramling pain 12werks after ectopic rupture & salpingectomy

Post by MiaW23 »

Hi,

I sadly had emergency surgery after my ectopic pregnancy ruptured on 26th November last year. I was treated with methotrexate for pregnancy of unknown location at 7 weeks. At 9 weeks the ectopic pregnancy ruptured and my left Fallopian tube was removed in a salpingectomy.
When the doctors examined me I was internally bleeding and there where large blood clots found around my uterus and bladder from the rupture.

I feel I have been healing well considering what had happened and my skin wounds have healed nicely.

I still have slight cramp pains (not enough to take any medication) and it isn’t constant. The pains are around where my left tube was removed and general pelvic area including my bladder when it is starting to become full: I have no burning sensations when I urinate, UTI’s have been ruled out. Although I feel my bladder doesn’t fully empty every time.

My question is has anyone else had this pain around their bladder and general cramping 12weeks after surgery? I know adhesions are possibly causing this and I want to know if this eventually did fade for anyone?
I don’t want to have surgery to investigate and repair the adhesions (which is what a GP I saw today has said is the only option)

Thank you everyone. All the posts on here have helped me so much through this recovery! :)

I didn’t have surgery but I get pain particularly with a full bladder or bowel, and I tried an exercise class the other day and since then had a stabbing pain in my tube. I’ve tried coming off the pill and I get cramps. Think it takes a while to settle :(

Dear Mia,
I am sorry to hear of your continued pain. I did not have surgery, so cannot give you any personal experiences of pain following surgery.
Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal over the last few months. As you have already mentioned, the pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through.
You have done the right thing in speaking to your GP, if the pain doesn't settle it maybe worth asking for the surgical teams opinion, you wouldn't have to go through with any investigations if you didn't want to. If you do decide to get a further opinion, I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. This information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms.

Sending much love,
Karen x
