Has anyone tried a ‘castor oil pack’ for fertility?

Post by Sunshinewalk88 »

I was just wondering if anybody has heard of using a castor oil pack to help with fertility? I haven’t got any children my first pregnancy was ectopic in my right ovary and my second pregnancy was a miscarriage. All I do is read up online about things I can do to help myself have a baby. One thing I came across was the castor oil it’s supposed to be really good for you but I just wanted to get other peoples opinions xx

Dear Sunshinewalk88,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and losses,
The EPT is a charity that has the backing of many medical specialists and prides itself in providing accurate, research based medical information.
We therefore remind you that, should you wish to make use of these therapies, you exercise caution and also avoid recommending them to other users of the EPT forums. Many complementary medicines are quite powerful and can have harmful side effects if misused. They may also interact with medicines that you may already be taking, or intend to take. Please remember that “natural” does not always mean safe – indeed some of the medicines that are prescribed today (including some controlled drugs) are derived from natural products. Many “natural” or “herbal” preparations can interfere with prescribed medicines or even make an existing condition or illness worse.
Lastly, there are many unscrupulous people out there who are quite happy to make money from vulnerable groups of people like ourselves, making claims that cannot be substantiated about products and services they aim to supply to you, so do be aware of this and only seek guidance and or alternative treatment from appropriately qualified and registered individuals.

Regarding TTC, we and many healthcare professionals advise keeping a healthy balanced diet, maintaining a healthy weight and abstaining from alcohol and smoking.
Importantly, help is available if conceiving naturally has not yet been successful after some time trying - and the EPT advises that women under 35 should seek medical advice following 12 months trying to conceive and those over 35 should seek advice after 6 months.

Sending much love,
Karen x
