Hair falling out - methotrexate?

Post by Buddy071 »

Hi. I had my methotrexate jabs (just one round) mid Feb. I have had a period since so was feeling as if my body was getting back to normal. But in the past week or two, I'm losing more hair than normal. I have long dark hair so when I brush it or wash it, some normally comes out of course. But in the past two weeks this seems to have increased significantly. Could it be an effect of the methotrexate after all this time? Anyone experienced something similar? Thank you.

Dear Buddy071,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Alopecia (hair loss) is an uncommon side effect of methotrexate, but when it is given for the treatment of ectopic pregnancy, it is given once or twice maximum and so therefore is metabolised quickly by the body, so not common to cause long lasting effects. Whilst it could be the methotrexate, there could be other reasons for your hair falling out, so I would discuss this with your doctor.

Sending much love,
Karen x
