Post by emmaloubee23 »

So i had severe period like pains last week at one point feelin like a contraction! I was due on period so did PT which was +ve so went to a&e and up to gynae clinic, bloods n urine show +ve, so my hcg level was 929, internal normal, had repeat bloods yday hcg only 946-it should have been over 1800, so suspected EP, Waiting on a call from hosp for plan prob a scan and more bloods every 2 days, so the pain thurs was severe, mild bellyache fri sat then jus back pains yday, i did have brown light discharge from thu-sat but noe normal so im just confused i thought the pain would get worse if anything, this waiting is killing me, i was so excited and now just so upset! I have a 3yr old already everything went fine no probs at all during preg/labour, they did ask if i ever had gonorrhea or chlamydia which i have at bout 19, im now 35, i jus thought if that had caused scarring in tubes wouldnt this me problematic in 1st and following pregnancies. So i just wanna no is this how EP typically shows...pain rhen no pain x

Dear emmaloubee23,
I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.
When diagnosing an ectopic pregnancy, doctors use a combination of transvaginal ultrasound scanning and blood tests to check HCG levels. Usually scans take place at around six weeks gestation as there is a reasonable chance of seeing an embryo at around this time. If scans are inconclusive, doctors usually test hCG levels and a hCG level that is rising by less than 66% over 48 hours can mean it is likely, but not a certainty, that the pregnancy is ectopic. With a healthy pregnancy, hCG levels typically double every 48-72 hours. Declining levels can indicate that the pregnancy has ended - possibly a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy that is "self resolving". It maybe that your pain has eased as the pregnancy is self resolving. Having said this, I do think that if you feel worsening pain which seems unusual and is concerning you and, in particular, if you experience any bleeding or spotting, it is better to get checked out to be on the safe side. As pain is unique to each person and I have such limited information, it would be better to get professional medical assistance by someone who can examine you.

Sending much love,
Karen x
