Ultrasound, bloodwork and shots happened so fast.

Post by Lterry »

Hello, I'm here for support and to find more information. I had my ultrasound and injections 3 days ago and had to make a choice within 3 hours due to the doctors office closing by 5pm on a Friday. I felt so rushed and confused. It's now Monday and had blood drawn again. I feel like a ticking time bomb. I'm afraid to do anything. I'm loosing a pregnancy, took strong medication, trying to avoid a rupture and scared I'll have to take more injections.

I've been trying to educate myself as much as possible and not freak out by all I read. So hoping to hear from others in my situation might comfort me some.

Dear Lterry,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it's treatment, reduction in fertility, concerns about the future and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense and your feelings are completely normal.
I completely understand how you feel, I too had methotrexate injection and I was so nervous between blood tests. It is normal for the hCG level to rise on the day four blood test because the action of Methotrexate is not instantaneous, so the cells will have continued to divide for two or three days after the injection was given, and some cells release more hCG when they start to disappear. Your doctors are looking to see a drop in your hCG value of at least 15% between days four and seven. If there has not been a 15% drop, this is when the doctors will consider a second dose of Methotrexate or surgery. You may start to feel easier as your hCG levels start to reduce.
Try to take each day as it comes, take it easy. We advise to avoid any heavy lifting or strenuous exercise whilst your levels are reducing.
Sending much love and warm hugs,
Karen x

Hello Karen,
Thank you! Your words help a lot. I got a call last night with my results from my first lab. My numbers have started to go down. I will be going back again tomorrow morning for more blood work and will wait again. I guess I can't return back to normal activities untill I get back to 0? Never easy for a mom to be laid out with a 3 year old who likes to use me as a jungle gym. I will try to keep positive and rest. Thank you again,
Lterry
