1 week post op

Post by Amyable »

Feeling worried as I’m 1 week post op. Have my left tube removed and now 1 week on ( 1 day after taking antibiotics for a urine infection) I’m now experiencing the exact same symptoms I had when I suspected I had an ectopic pregnancy. Aching pain in my left ovary and spotting when I wipe ( I haven’t spotted once since the surgery. My concerns are 1: internal bleeding or 2: a second ectopic in ovary that was missed? I know I’m probably being paranoid but I would be interested to hear anyone’s thoughts. Ive already returned once regarding the UTI and don’t want them thinking I’m a pain in the ass! I have a couple of questions... is it normal to ache and spot 1 week after surgery? I feel lightheaded however I often feel like this when I have a period. I thought I was just spotting and ovulating when I had the ectopic I only checked myself out when the spotting continued longer than my usual spotting. I’m just worried, worried constantly. Any advise would be much appreciated.

Went to A&e they took bloods and the pregnancy levels have dropped. They said if I start getting through a pad an hour re bleeding then to go back but other than that not to worry and beeding a week post op is perfectly normal. Take painkillers rest ect and redo pregnancy test 3 weeks post op. Just incase this helps anyone in a similar situation. ( this situation has been so petrifying from the start ) thank goodness for forums like these x

I took the 3 week post op pregnancy test yesterday and it then hit me like a ton of bricks. I thought I was doing ok emotionally until then so not sure if thats what triggered it.
I am glad they have reassured you everything else is normal and the process of healing though x

Dear Amyable,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Experiencing an ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you are in the early stages of recovery. Your body needs time to heal from your surgery which is in itself a gruelling task. You have also had to process the loss of your baby and been through an immense rollercoaster of emotions - all of this will take time to come to terms with.

Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through. If you find you experience offensive smelling discharge or an increased temperature of more than 37°C or just want to be checked out to be on the safe side, it would be worth asking your doctors to run tests to check for infection.
It is not unusual for women to bleed after treatment for ectopic pregnancy. This first bleed after treatment is a response to falling hormone levels and involves shedding of the uterine lining and is not classed as a period. The length of the bleeding can vary from woman to woman and some women do report spotting and bleeding for up to around six weeks after an ectopic pregnancy.

We advise that you should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body's signals and pain and feeling tired are your body's signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.

Sending much love,
Karen x
