Irregular bleeding after etopic

Post by Tixy »

Hi all,

Just after some advice I'm really scared something is wrong with me. I found out I had an etopic pregnancy on 12th July this year and was treated with methotrexate, which doctors said was successful as my hormone levels dropped to normal and I was discharged. I had my first period about 4 weeks later which was heavy but I expected that. The next one was heavy as well and on time but again no alarm bells cause of what my body has been through. I'm now worried because I'm due on next week but on Thursday I noticed brown discharge which I think is old blood. I'm scared as as it's now sunday and I'm still getting this. Has anyone else experienced anything like this after treatment?

Thanks

Dear Tixy,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Your periods can take a while to get back to a rhythm that is more usual for you. I also found that my periods changed for a few months after my losses. I would advise keeping a diary and speaking to your GP or doctor if your periods remain heavy in a few more months. Regarding the discharge prior to your period, I would again discuss this routinely with your GP, however see them more urgently if you develop and unusual vaginal discharge or bleeding in-between your periods.
Sending much love,
Karen x
