Spotting and painful periods after ectopic

Post by Disheartened123 »

Hi All,
I am feeling very disheartened after a ruptured ectopic nearly 5 months ago. We were ttc for 18months and ended up in emergency surgery situation loosing my right tube.
Ttc again and on day 2 of my cycle and feeling very low. My last 2 cycles I have experienced spotting from day 12 DPO and then period only lasts 2 days. Periods are very painful and nearly would say I have a burning sensation especially on the RHS. Has anyone else experienced this?

Dear Disheartened123,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and I truly understand the desire to conceive.
It is normal for periods to take a while to settle down following ectopic pregnancy, mine did too.
I would monitor what happens over the next few months, keep a diary of the pain, intensity and if anything such as paracetamol or hot water bottle helps and visit your GP with this information as this may guide your doctor on how best to manage your symptoms.
Having said this, if you have worsening pain or develop any unusual discharge, please seek medical advice sooner.
It may be comforting to know that 65% of women are successfully pregnant within 18 months of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and some studies suggest this rises to around 85% after two years.
Sending much love,
Karen x
