2 ectopics, 1 tube removed & irregular cycles (dep on side)

Post by ElineP »

Hi all,

I would like to hear your opinion on 2 things:

1) we had 2 ectopic pregancies this year, the first one I have my tube removed. The second one was treated with methotrexate.
The chances of this happening once are rather low, but twice are very very low. So I was just hoping that someone could tell me that this is just bad luck and that it's possible for this to happen twice without anything being wrong with me (+ we already have a son of 2 year old, so I know it should be possible).

2) After the 2nd ectopic, we decided not to try anymore for a couple of months, and my cycle was quite regular, 27 days. Now that we are trying again, when the ovulation is on the side where I have a tube left, I have a cylce of 25 days. When it's on the other, I have a cycle of 29. Is it somehow possible that when it's on the good side, the egg actually gets fertilized, but fails to nestle in the uturus, hence the 25 days instead of the 27?

Anyone having the same?

Dear ElineP,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. To experience one loss is difficult, to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.
Many women including myself look for reasons as to why we experience ectopic pregnancy, but for many of us no answer can be found. We also hear from many women who successfully conceive following multiple ectopic pregnancies.

Sadly I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your ovulation patterns. It is a misconception that we ovulate from alternate ovaries each month, so you may not be ovulating alternatively. I am also unsure that fertilization slows the length of time between periods. If you have any specific questions, I would advise speaking to your GP or fertility specialist.

While generally it is possible to conceive after an ectopic pregnancy, the amount of time it takes varies from couple to couple. Factors include age, general health, reproductive health and how often you have sex, among other things. It may be comforting to know that 65% of women are successfully pregnant within 18 months of experiencing an ectopic pregnancy and some studies suggest this rises to around 85% after two years.

Sending much love,
Karen x
