6 weeks post Salpingectomy with acute pain is that normal?

Post by Dima »

Hello everyone,

I just recently had a major ectopic pregnancy which resulted in my left Fallopian tube being removed. It’s been 6 weeks and 3 days and I still have pain in my pelvis area (where my tube was removed) the pain is not extreme but is uncomfortable and wonder what it means. Recovery time says 4-6 weeks and I am anxious to go back to work next week. I have my follow up with my surgeon on Thursday and I am hoping I can return to my regular routine. Is it normal to have pain after a month and half?

Dear Dima,
I'm so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal and it can take a few months to settle. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through.
It is good that you have a follow up appointment and do discuss your pain with your consultant,
Sending much love,
Karen x
