Expectant management - will I start bleeding again?

Post by Kjones »

Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with an ectopic pregnancy on the 7th January after a trip to the EPU as I had started bleeding but with no pains at all.

On the 7th my HCG was 2100, 48 hours later it has dropped to 1368 so the consultant agreed that expectant management was the best option to start with. My bleeding was heaviest on the 9th and by the 10th and 11th Jan it had completely stopped.

I am going back for another blood test on the 14th to check HCG levels again, but could they still be dropping even though I've already stopped bleeding? And is there is a chance that I could start bleeding again?

Thanks in advance everyone x

Dear Kjones,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
It is common to bleed after ectopic pregnancy but how much we bleed and for how long is really individual. You may find that your bleeding settles or you may start bleeding again and spot for a few weeks.
We have more information on what to expect here-

Sending much love,
