Methrotrexate hcg levels
Methrotrexate hcg levels
I had the methrotrexate injection on the 19th Dec, my hcg levels have been reducing steadily every week at my bloods. On Saturday the hospital discharged me but my hcg levels haven't reached 0. I am at 19, the nurse said as long as it was below 25 they are happy and i can start taking folic acid again now. Has anyone else been discharged when their hcg levels weren't at 0? Everything I've read says below 5,
Thank you

Re: Methrotrexate hcg levels
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.
We at the trust recommend starting folic acid when you have been discharged which is usually when levels are below 5.
NICE guidance recommends- For women with ectopic pregnancy who have had methotrexate, take 2 serum hCG measurements in the first week (days 4 and 7) after treatment and then 1 serum hCG measurement per week until a negative result is obtained. If hCG levels plateau or rise, reassess the woman's condition for further treatment. [2012]

However your trust may have a slightly different policy. If you are concerned, do not hesitate to contact your EPU or the Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) who will be able to discuss hospital policy with you.
Sending much love,
Karen x
