Advice

Post by Laney2bags »

Hi I have just registered, as I am having a hard time at the minute. I have recently had my second tube removed last Monday, my question is I was spotting until last Thursday maybe and had nothing, now I have started again but it’s not fresh blood. I am worried is this normal after surgery?

Hi Laney2bags,

I'm so sorry to hear that you've suffered an ectopic pregnancy and loss. During these early days, it is incredibly important to look after yourself and allow time for yourself to heal both physically and emotionally.

The bleeding you may experience occurs after treatment is the body's response to falling hormone levels. Usually, the bleeding after treatment lasts about a week and the begins to diminish. Some women find that bleeding and spotting after treatment for ectopic pregnancy can last up to six weeks. Provided you are not soaking more than a pad an hour and you can manage the pain with over the counter pain relief then please try not to worry.

In addition, many women experience changes to their menstrual cycles after an ectopic pregnancy and it can take some time to settle back into a rhythm that is more usual for you. Periods can be heavier or lighter or more painful than before - as we are so individual there isn't necessarily a set pattern. Doctors consider menstrual cycles of between 23-42 days to be within normal parameters and, if you find that you are not within these sorts of timeframes, it would be a good idea to speak to your doctors just to be on the safe side.

It can take our bodies some time to get back to normal. Your surgery is still quite recent and your body is still be adjusting. However, it is always valuable to speak with your GP if you are concerned.

With good wishes,

Michele
