Bleeding after methotrexate

Post by Ivamn87 »

Hi,

I had a methotrexate injection 6 weeks ago on 14th June following a persistent non-viable PUL. My HCG results came back at 10 on 19th July (HPT negative on 13th July) after which I was discharged by my local EPU. I had around 2 weeks of heavy bleeding (23rd June to 10th July) and spotting throughout. Today it's been 6 weeks but I am still spotting albeit dark almost black-brown coloured (sorry if TMI). All information leaflets say that bleeding/spotting should stop in 6 weeks. I am a bit concerned. I took a HPT today and it's negative (which is reassuring) and called EPU who said contact GP for disfunctional bleeding medication. I don't want to unnecessarily take medication so wanted to know if anyone else had had something similar and could it be dangerous or I am best to wait it out for a few more days.

Additional info which may/may not be useful. I started taking trying to conceive vitamins 1 week ago after checking with EPU.

Thanks for any help/advice.

Dear Ivanm87,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Bleeding can take on average 6 weeks to settle so it is possible that it's just taking a little longer to settle.
If your bleeding is accompanied by an unusual or offensive vaginal discharge, you have a temperature or there is a chance you could be pregnant, please speak to your GP as a matter of urgency.
As I am not medically trained, I would always advise speaking to your GP with any concerns.

Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi there,
Just thought I’d post as I had the same worries up until a week ago. My bleeding stopped at 7 weeks 3 days after methotrexate. X
