Thigh pain

Post by samanthawilliams29 »

Hello all, my first time posting on here after reading all the posts for months, it has really helped me.
I had an ectopic pregnancy and had methotrexate injection in July. My HCG levels went down to 0 in September. But since this I've had pain in on my right side, usually around the time of ovulation/period which can also go down my right thigh, nothing major just a dull ache. I've spoken to the doctor who says this is normal. But I'm wondering if others have experienced the same?

Dear samanthawilliams29,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
Pain around the time of ovulation can be quite common following ectopic pregnancy. Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on the pain radiating down to your thigh.
I certainly had sharp stabbing pains for many months following my ectopic pregnancy. If your pain continues or worsens, I would advise speaking to your GP again.
Sending much love,
Karen x

This is exactly the same pain I have had got treated with the injection in November and am still having pains on my right side going down my leg but I’m not sure when I’m meant to have a period as I have been bleeding since beginning of November on and off especially the injection, anyone know when I’ll get a period and if it will be heavy?

I had negative pregnancy test on the 4th September and then had my first period on the 19th September, so roughly 3 weeks after.
Hope you are feeling better soon!

I have this exact same thing, also with lower back pain. I was wondering if this has to do with ovulation. I have had it on off since methotrexate injection in October.

It is awful!Goodluck on your appointment! Can you keep me updated? I would like to hear what your doctors think. I wrote to you on another post that you had posted about pain. I was curious if you still have a collection from the etopic, if not how long did it take for yours to go away?

Yes I will keep you updated. Thank you for staying in touch, it's really nice to have others to talk to who have been through similar. I often feel very alone in this.
Sorry I dont understand what you mean by a collection?

I know same here.. I feel so alone in this whole process. The area where your etopic was, is what I ment. My first ultrasound was 8.2× 5.3× 3.7, next one was 4.3×1.8×3.5, and my last one was 4.1× 1.2×1.9. Did they monitor you to make sure the area was shrinking? I was wondering how long it takes to fully go away.My doctor said 3 months but im coming up on that. I have another ultrasound scheduled in February.

I had one scan which was when they confirmed the ectopic never mentioned anything about the size. But other than that I only had blood tests. I never had any follow up appointments or assessments. I've continued to struggle with the pain hoping it will go away, but I wonder whether I do still have some of the collection there which may be causing the pain. I'm free to talk whenever you feel you need someone to talk to xx

Oh wow, thats crazy they wouldn't monitor you. I would definitely request another ultrasound at your next appointment. I had blood test to but I was also given ultrasounds every six weeks to monitor the size. They told me the collection should go away in 3 months but obviously its going to take longer than that.. Its just scary.. When I went to my last appointment and told her about my pain,, she mentioned something about maybe having an adhesion from the inflammation of the etopic. She also mentioned surgery to remove it. I go in February 2 for next ultrasound and then we will go from there.. ill keep you updated. Thanks for the support 🙂. Im here if you need anything as well , feel free to reach out anytime 💗.

Hello, just thought I'd keep you updated. I went to the Doctors today and he has booked me in for a blood test on Tuesday and then a scan as soon as possible but may be a few weeks he said.
I explained the pain I am feeling and the impact it is having on my life. He checked my stomach and said he cant feel anything, although based on what I said he thinks it may be an ovarian cyst which is causing the pain. He didnt really link it to the ectopic which I was very surprised by, didnt mention anything about potential adhesions etc, I did ask but he said given the length of time that's unlikely, but I feel it's a coincidence that I've been in pain constantly since the ectopic. Having never suffered with abdominal pain previously. But he also said that many women suffer with abdominal pain with no reason. I hope that there is a solution for me! I cant continue like this!
Hope you are feeling better today?

Hey Samantha!
Thanks for the update!! I'm glad and hopeful that you will getting anwsers soon as to what is going on with you. What are they testing your blood for?? They said I had a cyst right by my etopic as well, according to the last scan I had it went away. I am still having pain, comes and goes. Im like you I never had stomach pain before this happened. I feel the same as you its just interrupting from daily life! I really just want this to be over so I can move on. I actually had a break down today, this whole thing is stressful. Goodluck on your scan ill be thinking about you, hope it all goes well! Are you going to be trying to convince again in the future?

I asked whether there could be risk of any infection etc so he said we can do blood test to make sure. I dont think there is but I would rather rule it out.
I know exactly how you feel, it's impossible to move on when you are in constant pain. I regularly cry myself to sleep and have days where I'm so down I just lock myself away in the bathroom and cry. I'm generally a very resilient person and can spring back from very difficult things in my life, but this has really knocked me.
I would love to try again, but I'm terrified of this happening again. I had a miscarriage in September 2019 and then ectopic June 2020 so im feeling a bit drained by it all. Are you going to try again?

😔 That's a good ideal to rule infection out.. I known your pain this will be my 3rd miscarriage. The first miscarriage was a blatum ovum Feb.2019. The second one was really hard I had to deliver him at 17 weeks because they could no longer hear his heartbeat( October2019). Now I'm dealing with this one. I do have two children so I do feel really blessed. Even after all of this I still do want to try but im terrified. I won't try again without getting some blood work done to see if they can determine why I keep miscarriaging. I was scared before but now I feel really scared, I dont want to go thru this ever again. Its so painful, and still is.

Oh that sounds horrific, you've been through so much. I'm so sorry.
I also have a 7 year old son, so im blessed and lucky to have him, plus I am young enough to try again. It may just take us some time. I do find it hard as my partner would love another child, he doesnt put any pressure on me at all, but I just know. Hes an amazing dad to our son and I see him with new born babies. I worry that we will end up being a relationship so focused on having another child it will break us. Theres no sign of that at the moment, it's probably all in my head.
I keep researching the reasons for miscarriage and ectopic but I dont have any of the risk factors, I just never thought this would happen to me. I find it so confusing after having no issues with the birth of my son, to now be having problems?

I know what you mean. I think my husband is scared for me to try again but he says whatever I want to do he will support. Don't worry about it coming between your relationship if he loves you he will support you no matter what. My oldest is 9 and youngest is 5. I had no problem with either of them. I carried them both for 42 weeks. I never imagined I would have to go through any of this either. I wish I had anwsers of why this is all happening. I have looked up everything I could think of having to do with miscarriages and I dont have any of the problems that I know of with putting myself at risk for miscarriage. God works in mysterious ways. Im holding on to faith for both of us!!!!

I now know everything there is to know about miscarriage and ectopic (from Google which isnt great!) But I've been frantically looking for answers, reasons why this may have happened. If there was a reason I could do something about it and make sure this didnt happen again, then I would feel more safe trying again. I asked the Doctor for a referral for fertility tests and he said "fertility is not a problem here you've just been pregnant in July" I was so confused by his response that I didnt challenge it. Maybe I used the wrong terminology, but I just want further tests.
But like you say God works in mysterious ways! I see many messages on here of women that have a baby after an ectopic, it seems hard to imagine for me right now, but I'm hopeful for us both two!

Yeah, I know what you mean I can get pregnant but why do I keep having miscarriages? There has to be a reason. I was going to go to a high risk obgyn to get my testing done. Its called a preconception vist, they also have genetic counselors there. I was going to to go to fertility specialist myself but being as I can get pregnant I just can't hold them i thought I would try them out first. Do you have high risk maternity area where you are at? I'm from the USA, I know this is an UK forum but I couldn't find any forms like this one.

Sorry I didnt realise you had messaged back!
I'm not sure what we have in the UK, if I'm honest the treatment I've received has not been great and I think that is due to covid at the moment. I havent been monitored very closely or had anyone to talk to properly. I've been for my blood test today and will get the results next Monday.
This is a brilliant forum isnt it, its helped me so much, just having a conversation with you over this over recent weeks has made such a difference to me, so thank you
