When will the pain stop

Post by samanthawilliams29 »

Hello all, I had methotrexate in July 2020 and hcg levels down to 0 in September. But I'm still in pain, i thought it may be due to ovulation so I went on the pill, but that has made no difference. Most days I'm aching on my lower right side which is where the ectopic was, I've spoken to the Doctor who has just told me that as the pain eases with paracetamol theres nothing to worry about. I'm currently taking at least 4 paracetamol every day to cope with the pain, I just feel so down and frustrated by it all. I'm wondering what complications can happen after an ectopic, I'm obviously not at risk of rupture so far after HCG levels being 0 but I cant help but think something isnt right. Or is it? Have others felt pain for so long after an ectopic? If so how did you manage?
Thank you

Dear Samantha,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and continued discomfort.
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your symptoms. Many women experience pain after ectopic pregnancy, myself included, however I would suggest that having to take paracetamol daily since July is not normal and I would advise speaking again to your GP or to a different GP in your surgery.
I also had methotrexate and suffered from regular pain afterwards. I kept a diary of my symptoms, what helped and went to the GP with this information. My GP referred me for an ultrasound scan and also referred me into a fertility specialist. I was on the waiting list to see the fertility specialist when I fell pregnant, so I never did get the answers.
I would urge you to seek a second opinion an possible referral if you are still having to take painkillers every day. It may not be anything to worry about (as in my case) however, it may also put your mind at rest knowing you are being investigated.

Sending much love,
Karen x

I really appreciate your response. Yes I will contact the Doctor again and ask for another opinion. You are right, I just want to put my mind at rest, it's such a difficult experience to have gone through and the constant pain is just not letting me move forward. Hopefully I can get some answers

Hello Samantha,
I saw your post when I was trying to find answers about the same thing. I had an etopic pregnancy and was treated with methotrexate in October 2020. I am still currently having pain on my right side which is the side I had the etopic on. I have just recently been have pain on my left side , im thinking from ovulation pain. I went to the doctor to tell her about my pain she said she's not sure why I am having pain on my left. I still have a collection area in there from etopic. My last ultrasound it measured 4.1×1.2×1.9, the one before that in November was 4.3×1.8×3.5 , and the one I had in October was 8.2×5.3×3.7. She said she was concerned that it didn't go in half like it did the first time. So she recommended one more ultrasound in February to see the progress. She also mentioned that I can still be having pain on my right side because my body made aheasions from the inflammation of the ectopic. She mentioned surgery to remove possible aheasions. How long did it take for your collection to reabsorb or is yours still there? Keep me posted on your doctors appointment, I hope all goes well. It sucks to go through this but feels good to know im not alone.
