24hours post op

Post by Daniellem202 »

Hello, I am 24hours post op, had eptopic removal along with right tube removal.

I am feeling totally rubbish both mentally and physically.

Anyone else suffer from shoulder pain? It's just come on really bad. My chest no longer hurts so I thought I had gotten all of the gas out but i think the shoulder pain is due to that?

Trying to rest yet get up and walk around at the same time. Find that if i sit for too long my circulation gets abit bad- is this normal?

Didnt get much information when i was discharged yesterday so finding myself panicking
and googling everything!

Just want to feel better but i know its early days and i need to heal.

Does the heartache get better? Woke up at 6am sobbing, just want my little grape to still be there and growing, but I know it wasnt in the right place and that it needed to go...doesnt make it any easier.

Sorry I have rambled on just so much going on in my head. Any advice would be appreciated xx

Dear Danielle,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
When we experience ectopic pregnancy we are suddenly faced with a life threatening emergency and it's treatment, reduction in fertility, concerns about the future and the loss of our babies. Experiencing any one of these is an ordeal, putting them together is immense and your feelings are completely normal. The heartache is a normal response to grief and yes it does get better with time but there is no time frame for when this may be.

Shoulder pain and fatigue are normal after surgery, unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot comment specifically on the circulation symptoms, but your body has been through a great deal and will still be dealing with the affects of anaesthesia and surgery. I would say to monitor your symptoms and if they worsen to seek medical advise.

Experiencing an ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you are in the early stages of recovery. Your body needs time to heal from your surgery which is in itself a gruelling task.
You should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body's signals and pain and feeling tired are your body's signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.

Above all be kind to yourself and allow time to grieve, to heal both physically and emotionally. We are all here for you for as long as you need.
Sending much love,

Hi Danielle
I'm also just over 24 hours post surgery and still have really sore shoulders and back. The nurse in the hospital told me it was the impact of the gas used during the surgery and may last a few days. I really feel for you - it's such a loss. This is my second ectopic in 10 months and if there is anything I've learnt its the importance of taking time to recover both physically and emotionally - it really is important to be kind and patient with yourself and going day by day.
Take care of yourself - I'm here to talk if helpful
