Stressing and need help (long story)

Post by Alexis_ »

In the March I found out I was pregnant. (This would have been my second baby.) I was bleeding, and cramping. I called my OB and they said that if it’s nothing like a period that it’s fine, just keep an eye on it. But, it got worse. So, I went and got my blood work done to see if my HCG levels and they said it was pretty low, so my OB just thought I was earlier than expected (I thought I was 6 weeks) He had me come back in 48 hrs to get my blood tested again to see if it would drop. My OB called on Friday the 26th of March and he told me I was miscarrying. A couple of weeks go by and I’m still cramping, so I give my OB a call and the nurse just told me that it’s normal. On the 10th of April I went to the ER with a horrible cramping on my right side. They did some testing and got an ultrasound. The tests came back and the doctor (not my OB) said that he doesn’t think it’s an ectopic and that we don’t need to do surgery, because my hemoglobin and my HCT levels weren’t dropping. They kept me over night, they did more testing in the morning and my levels were still not going down. So they had me go home. A few hours go by and my left shoulder starts hurting (they told me to go in if anything like that happens) so I get more testing done and nothing. So they keep me over night again. Next, morning my levels dropped. So I went into surgery (my right Fallopian tube was inflamed). After that it kinda went well (couldn’t go to the bathroom because everytime I stood up I felt sick and kept throwing up.) they kept me over night again to make sure everything was going okay. I go back home the next day. I’m home for the night and then I’m doing okay the next morning, but I am having a horrible headache. My mom gave me CBD oil to see if that will help, I take a nap and then woke up feeling really dizzy, and I felt like my heart was beating out of my chest. My mom takes me to the bathroom to get a bath started. I then start having a panic attack. (I was also very pale at the time.) my mom rushes me to the urgent care, they said that my pulse is at 154. So I get rushed to the ER they do more testing and my hemoglobin and HCT are very low so they get me on a blood transfusion. They keep me over night to make sure my levels are doing better. But it’s still going down. They wanted to take me back in for surgery, but decided to give me more blood. My color was coming back a little, and they had me stay another night. I was scared, because if my levels went down more they would have had to go back into surgery to make sure I wasn’t internally bleeding. (Just so everyone knows I also had a hematoma where one of the incisions was.) But they had me go home the next day because it went down slightly and they said that it was basically the same as it was. Anyways, so for a long story. A couple of weeks later I keep getting cramps on my sides and I sometimes feel lightheaded. But, I called my OB and he doesn’t have much to tell me but that they can get my blood taken again. Which I don’t know if that would actually do anything.

Right now, I’m home with my daughter and I’m getting a cramp on my left side. Idk if I’m just ovulating (which I thought was happening a week ago.) I don’t want to keep calling my OB because I feel like I’m annoying them. Please help me!

Dear Alexis,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss. You have been through a huge amount in such a short space of time and it is very normal to feel overwhelmed. From your words, I can imagine how frightening the experience must have been and I am sorry you have had to go though this.

Experiencing an ectopic pregnancy is a huge ordeal and you are in the early stages of recovery. Your body needs time to heal from your surgery which is in itself a gruelling task. You have also had to process the loss of your baby and been through an immense rollercoaster of emotions - all of this will take time to come to terms with.

You should take it very easily for about six weeks after surgery. Your body will be using its energies to heal internally. It is normal to feel physically and emotionally exhausted during this time and please do be kind to yourself. Recovery can take time and some days will be better than others, one day you maybe ok and the next you maybe in discomfort or more emotional. This is perfectly usual and the healing process will go back and forth in this way for however long you need. It is important to listen to your body's signals and pain and feeling tired are your body's signs to tell you to rest. We suggest keeping a healthy balanced diet, drinking lots of water and resting. Once your wounds have healed, very gentle exercise such as a short walk can help, but please do take this slowly.
Having said this however, I am not medically trained and would always advise speaking to your Dr with any concerns. You are not bugging them. You know your body best and if something doesn't feel right or your symptoms aren't getting better or going away, you do need to speak to them.

Above all be kind to yourself and allow time to grieve, to heal both physically and emotionally. We will be here for you for as long as you need,

Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Alexis

What a frightening experience for you. Don’t feel like you are wasting anyone’s time. This is their job and I’m sure they care about all their patients equally. Above all, considering you had a blood transfusion on your last visit, I think you’re entitled to make sure you’re ok to say the least!

If it helps, I often call the gynaecologist to ask questions regarding any pain I have, and by no means was it as serious as you. I’ve never had anyone tell me that I’m wasting their time or made me feel that way. PULs or EP are serious and should therefore be taken seriously.

Take care of yourself and try not to worry. Call them to put your mind at rest at any time.

Xxx
