HCG fall after tube removal

Post by Random2020 »

Hi,

On Weds I had a salpingectomy to treat a second ectopic pregnancy in the last year. I was told in the hospital to take a pregnancy test after three weeks, however, I had assumed with the removal of the pregnancy tissue that the HCG would fall quickly, however, I know it's still in my system. How long does it usually take for HCG to leave the system after tube removal? Is it normal to still have traces of it in your system even once the tissue has been removed which produces it?

Dear Random2020,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Following treatment for ectopic pregnancy, it can take a few weeks for hCG levels to fall to non pregnant levels. How quickly depends on the levels of reached and due to our own unique physiology as we are all different. Home pregnancy test kits are also super sensitive these days picking up hCG at very low levels. I would suggest testing as you have been advised.

Sending much love,
Karen x

Sorry you had to go thru this. Just wanted to say I had surgery back in March and a week after my test was already negative, 2 weeks post surgery it was stark white.
