Anyone had persistent HCG after Fallopian tube removal?

Post by Emmafay »

Hi all,

I’ve hunted high and low to find someone “like me” with this rare complication after a salphingectomy.
On the 13th April 2021 I had surgery to remove a 5x5 “mass” and my Fallopian tube due to a ruptured ectopic pregnancy.
After surgery the sample was sent off for histology and very strangely the results came back that NO fetal or placental tissue was found.
I was then told to take a pregnancy test week 2 post surgery.. still positive
I was called in for a scan.. all clear
My HCG had gone from 1400 to 150.
They believed by week 3 it should be below 5.
Week 3 post surgery.. still got a positive test, bloods were repeated and my HCG has now increased?! It is now 250.
Another scan performed.. all clear

Next minute I’m being told this is very rare and they are unsure what’s going on with me.
I was then advised to have the methotrexate.
I’ve since had the injection and not experienced one single side effected.
My HCG hasn’t budged. Well it’s gone to 251.

What is going on?

The doctors dont seem to have any answers for me.

Please tell me someone has experienced this 😔

Dear Emma,
I am so sorry to hear of the difficult time you are going through. Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your queries, especially as it has stumped your doctors.
It is good to see that you are being closely monitored. The action of methotrexate is not instantaneous so you may find your levels start to decrease at the next blood test. I will certainly keep everything crossed for you.

We are here for you, feel free to vent, ask questions (we will try out best to answer them)
Sending much love,
Karen x
