First eptopic journey

Post by Nad »

Hi,

I’m so lost, I had 1 dose of methotrexate 5 weeks ago. My bleeding has stopped and the pain calmed. (I bled for 2 weeks before my methotrexate and then for 3 weeks after so I was bleeding for around 5 weeks)

My levels went down to 3 so hospital said I didn’t need any more appointments until my 6 week check in. I was told still not to do too much and not have intercourse until 6 week check up, which is over the phone? My nurse told me despite levels being down eptopic is still there and will take time dissolve. Is it normal for my body to still feel effects of methotrexate 5 /6 weeks in?

(At one point early on I felt the pain and bleeding wouldn’t end) I was doing better practically painless, just a twinge every few days but today I began to get slightly more pains along my pelvic area like a period. I read it could be my system trying to get back to normal? Unsure.

My eptopic is on the right so I had pain there but not severe at all but it’s hard because it reminds you and keeps me reminded that maybe I’m not doing as good as I thought.

Now that I no longer have EGU appointments I’m just confused and worried about recovery now and what to expect because half the points on here my nurses or dr have not told me and things other women have said on here make sense to me and have helped me understand what is happening to my body.

It’s a very odd, unusual and upsetting time. Any help about what to expect going forward would help a lot. Thank you.

Dear Nad,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Pain following treatment for ectopic pregnancy can be quite normal as your body has been through a great deal. The pain may be due to your body preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through. If you find you experience offensive smelling discharge or an increased temperature of more than 37°C or just want to be checked out to be on the safe side, it would be worth asking your doctors to run tests to check for infection. If you are concerned about the pain, please also speak to your GP.
If the pain persists, I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors with this information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms.I

We have more information on methotrexate treatment and what to expect following ectopic pregnancy on our website which you may also find helpful.
