Nearly a year later....

Post by Cat1985 »

Hi everybody I just wanted to reach out to see what problems (if any) you had after having an ectopic pregnancy. My experience wasn't totally unexpected, we hadn't been trying for a baby and after weeks of pain and feeling unwell my diagnoses went from appendicitis to pelvic inflammatory disease then eventually after going to A&E and numerous tests was told I had an ectopic pregnancy.... One week late I was in theatre having my (right) tube removed. Anyway nearly a year on whenever I am due on, a week before I get horrible pains in my right side sometimes to the point where it hurts to sit down because of pressure. Then when my period hits the pain is always to the right and generally makes me feel so unwell. This never happend before the surgery. Has anybody else experienced anything like this? The pain I feel is like the pain I had before surgery its very strange. I didnt even know what to expect after the surgery as I wasnt given any aftercare information apart from rest for a couple weeks. Thank you

Dear Cat,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and continued discomfort.
Unfortunately I am not medically trained so cannot give you specific advice on your symptoms.
It sounds as though it maybe hormonaly driven though if you are experiencing this every month just before and during you periods.
It is very common for women to experience pain when they didn't before surgery. I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors with this information helps them to assess how best to manage and investigate your symptoms.

Sending much love,
Karen x
