Possible to ovulate 1 week post surgery?

Post by AndreaR_01 »

Hi there,

Two weeks ago I had methotrexate but ended up having surgery to remove my left Fallopian tube just over a week ago.

I’m recovering well, although still a bit up and down emotionally, but the last couple of days I’ve had the egg white type mucus you get around ovulation time. Could I be ovulating already?

Obviously we won’t be trying again for at least 3 months due to the methotrexate, but just wondered if it’s possible to ovulate this soon after methotrexate and surgery.

Thanks,
Andrea x

Dear Andrea,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Periods can re-start anything between two and ten weeks after surgery and before having a period you have to ovulate so it is possible that you are ovulating at this time.
As you have rightly said, we and many medical professionals advise waiting for two menstrual cycles before trying to conceive. It is important to allow time for your body to recover and emotions to surface and be worked through. This is so that you have some comfort that your body is returning to its natural rhythm and you have a last menstrual period date from which to date a new pregnancy - key information in checking you are not suffering from an ectopic pregnancy in the future.

Sending much love,
Karen x

Thank you, Karen. I’ve started taking folic acid again and we’ll probably wait until the new year until we start trying again.

Sorry for all the questions, but the advice on drinking alcohol and methotrexate is a bit vague. How many weeks past the hormone levels dropping to non pregnant should I not drink alcohol for? The advice states ‘a few weeks’. Would it be a month or longer?

Thanks!
