Horrible periods still almost a year later

Post by burch069 »

I had an ectopic removed laparoscopically on New Years Eve - they did save the tube but I later had to have the methotrexate shot to clear up a small piece. My periods had always been heavy before requiring both tampons and pads and ibuprofen but I could still function and go to work. Now after the surgery every period has been horrible. I am in ridiculous pain, I get dizzy and nauseated, can barely walk, and I bleed a ton including two days of large blood clots. And I'm always having random pains on the opposite side of where the ectopic was that feels like pulled muscles. I know they say painful periods are normal after an ectopic but shouldn't things have settled a year later? I feel like every month a new horrible symptom appears! Anyone else still having really bad periods this long after?

Dear burch,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and continued discomfort.
I too experienced pain frequently after my ectopic pregnancy. I spoke to my GP who referred me to the gynaecology department where I was going to have further investigations, but became pregnant prior to these, so never did get to the bottom of my symptoms. I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors with this information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms along with your heavy periods.

Sending much love,
Karen x
