Ovulating during MTX

Post by Sarahkate8 »

Hi! Does anyone know if you can ovulate while undergoing methotrexate treatment? I’m now down to hcg of 15 (taking forever!!) and just noticed some discharge that resembles my pre-ovulation discharge from before this ectopic happened. I’ve also had a lot of bleeding a couple of weeks ago that they suspected could have been a period (although a very heavy one at that). The body does some very strange things indeed!

Hi Sarahkate8,

It's very good that you are monitoring your symptoms while you remain on MTX and that you are reaching out for medical advice. It is possible to ovulate during methotrexate treatment, so it is important to be aware that it is possible to become pregnant without having a period first, if you are not using some form of contraception.

I encourage you to keep monitoring your symptoms. Possibly keeping a journal of when and types of symptoms. This can help communicate back to your doctors about what is occurring.

Importantly, until you reach nonpregnant levels (under 5), please continue to monitor yourself for any severe or worsening symptoms that could indicate rupture.

Please know that we are here for you throughout and for as long as you need.

With very good wishes,

Michele
