TTC After Methotrexate

Post by Hjbreward »

Hi,

I had an ectopic pregnancy in July this year & was fortunate that I was able to be treated successfully with 1 dose of methotrexate. My levels returned to 0 within 4weeks. It has now been >90days since the treatment & I have about another months worth of folic acid 5mg to take… does anyone know if there is a blood test I should have before we start TTC again? To check that my folic acid levels are ok & methotrexate is fully out of my system?
Thank you! x

Dear Hjbreward,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss.
In the UK, we do not routinely test folate levels in the blood following methotrexate. Taking folic acid supplements for 12 weeks after your hCG levels have returned to zero will be enough to bring levels up to normal again, unless you have been advised otherwise by a medical professional. If you have any queries due to your own past medical history, I would advise speaking to your GP or medical team.

Sending much love,
Karen x
