3 ectopics

Post by britmholley »

Hello,

Has anyone on here experienced 3 ectopic pregnancies and still was able to have a baby without doing IVF? My first ectopic was 4 years ago and my tube ruptured and had to be removed. My second ectopic was 14 months later and was treated with methotrexate and the third happened last November also being treated with methotrexate. I had a test done on my remaining fallopian tube and there is a small blockage but all the drs we see say its up to us if we want to keep trying. We did an IVF consult and we just cant afford it. I am 34 and really want children and so does my fiancé, I feel like I am the one preventing him from being able to have a baby even though he reassures me that no matter if we can or cant we will always be together. Any advice is welcome! Thank you

Dear britmholly,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancies and losses. To experience one loss is difficult to deal with multiple losses is heartbreaking and my heart truly goes out to you.
We do hear from many women who successfully conceive following multiple losses. Sadly even with IVF there remains a risk of ectopic pregnancy. If your medical team have advised that you can try again naturally, I would echo their advice. Please also remember that early scans avail. As soon as you know you are pregnant, contact your local EPU to inform them and book in for an early scan at around six weeks. Remind them of your previous ectopic pregnancy. This self refer route is the best route in our view. Hopefully you will have some comfort to know you are under the radar of medical professionals right away.
Sending much love,
Karen x

Hi Karen,

Thank you for your response, I was hoping to hear a success story from someone who has had 3 ectopics, all the research I do doesn't ever have 3 ectopics, it sounds like so many!!
I really do appreciate your encouraging words and your response, definitely made my day a little brighter.

Hi Britmholley,

I also had 2 ectopic (rupture and removed tube with the first one), and then it happend 3 months later again, and then treated with methotrexate. We are going to try a third time, but indeed, I agree with you, haven't read much stories about successfully having a baby after 2 or 3 ectopic pregancies, although there surely are! We have a son already, so we know it's possible to have a baby, but no idea what is going wrong, or if it's really just bad luck.

You did the tube investigation, we haven't (yet), but we'll try our luck a third time. I really hope it works out for you as well!
