Tightness / Pain during ovulation

Post by Smay88 »

During my passed two cycles following an ectopic I am experiencing tightness / low level discomfort on the side my tube was removed around ovulation time.

Is this normal? And also does this mean I am only ovulating from my right side as it has happened two cycles in a row...

Dear Smay88,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss,
Experiencing some pain after an ectopic pregnancy is normal as your body has been through a great deal over the last few months. The pain may be due to adhesions (scar tissue that binds two parts of the body together) which form and take some time to settle. Your body may be preparing to ovulate and many women experience ovulation pain when they did not before their ectopic pregnancy - including myself. You also may have a heightened perception because of the sad loss that you have had to go through. If the pain persists, I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors with this information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms.

I also experienced ovulation pain and always from the side of my ectopic regardless from the site that I actually ovulated from. I know this as when I next fell pregnant, the early scan showed that I had ovulated from the opposite side of my ectopic.

Sending much love,
Karen x

Thank you Karen for your reply. It is good to know that even though the pain is on the right side I may still be ovulating from the left. Xx

Although I haven't had a cycle yet after my ectopic, I have also experienced pain on the side where my tube was removed. It's got me to thinking whether I've ovulated on my right side again and worry if I'll ovulate on my left side in future. I worry as weve never had issues getting pregnant (I just dont seem to be able to carry) and and scared that obviously we will now. X
