One week later

Post by Cassiek »

One week ago tomorrow I had emergency surgery because I had an ectopic pregnancy and it burst. They performed laparoscopic surgery and removed the pregnancy and my left Fallopian tube. I have three incisions, left side, right side and belly button. I have been recovering well, thankful to have a wonderful husband taking care of me. The pain has been subsiding every day. But on top of the sadness that I just can’t shake I keep feeling a fluttering of sorts in my lower abdomen. And sometimes a sort of dripping feeling near my belly button. Neither of these feelings are painful just more odd feeling than anything. I tried looking online to see if anyone else has experienced this but I have not found anything. I even called the doctors office and spoke to a nurse who said that since there really isn’t pain I shouldn’t worry. I don’t really trust them anymore after weeks of being in pain and them telling me I was just pregnant. So I thought maybe if I came on here someone would know what I’m going through and maybe would have felt the same thing? Thank you

Hi Cassiek,

I'm so very sorry to hear that you've suffered an ectopic pregnancy and loss. My heart aches for you and I know how many questions the experience can leave us with. I will do my very best to help.

Many women experience discomfort after experiencing ectopic pregnancy and it can be a scary time. The pain could be for a number of reasons. It could be due to adhesions or scar tissue that form as part of your recovery. It could be as a result of ovulation pains (many women feel this when they hadn't before including myself). It may also be heightened awareness after everything you have endured.

You could keep a pain diary, noting when the pain starts, when and where you experience pain and the intensity. You could also write down anything that helps the pain including paracetamol, rest, hot water bottle etc and you could discuss your notes with your doctors. These details would help them determine how best manage your symptoms.

Your surgery was so recent and it's so very, very important to give yourself time to heal physically and emotionally. There is no set time frame for our recovery. Some days are good; some days less so. Over time, things become a bit more normal. These boards are full of people who, unfortunately, share in this experience, and we are here for you. As well, the Trust operates a hotline if you want to speak to someone about your experience. The contact information is in my signature.

Please know we are here for you for as long as you need.

With good wishes,

Michele

I'm so thankful for your post. I am 8 days post surgery and I too lost my left tube. I have 4 incisions because of a slight repair had to be made to my uterus. I too have been experiencing these feelings also shooting pains from my belly button to my cervix. My tube did not rupture thank goodness but my baby was still alive and that really messes with my head. I'm sorry you have been through this too. I hope your feeling better x

Hi Cassiek,
You and I are ep sisters because I also had an ectopic in the left tube that burst which was removed along with the tube. I have felt maybe some referred pain on my right and also that electric shocks from my belly button down to pelvis. Also my lower back has been a little achy. I’m not sure how you felt but about a week after surgery and I have felt the best, pain-wise but the emotional toll has been severe. I was always the type of person in the past who would push pain away and not allow myself to feel it or work through it but having done some work with a therapist (before this happened), I’m feeling what my mind and body are going through.
Hang in there. You’re a strong bada** and day by day will get easier. Right?
