Pain 3 years post methotrexate

Post by LadyLanora »

Hi,

I had a ectopic pregnancy roughly 3 years ago, (11/16) which was managed with methotrexate, I have since had a baby and everything was fine with that pregnancy although I had some pain in my left side during labour (which is the side of my ectopic) I have just resumed having periods after breastfeeding for 2 years and i keep getting horrible pains, again in my left tube area. Is this normal? Has anyone else continued to experience pain after having their ectopic managed medically?

Dear LadyLanora,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy and loss and continued complications after the birth of your baby.
I experienced pains on the side of my ectopic pregnancy following methotrexate for some time after the injection. I was referred for further investigations however fell pregnant before I had any.
After the birth of my baby, I began experiencing pain at the side of my ectopic, but after a while recognised that they were ovulation pains. Like myself many women experience this when they didn't before their ectopic pregnancy.

As your pain is persisting, I suggest keeping a pain diary noting when the pain appears, the intensity on a scale of 0-10 and anything that helps the pain eg resting, hot water bottle, paracetamol etc. Visiting your doctors with this information helps them to assess how best to manage your symptoms.

Sending much love,
Karen x
