Methotrexate 2nd dose

Post by Shell_624 »

Hi everyone.

I'm waiting for my second dose of methotrexate as day 7 levels weren't dropping enough. Today is day 9 and I've called the epu and they don't have me down today 😩 I feel like a ticking time bomb, as my first ectopic ruptured so only have 1 tube left. Is this normal to wait so long for methotrexate 2nd dose? I can see it being tomorrow at this rate. I thought they had to be given 7 days apart for them to work? Hope you can help 🙏🏼

Dear Shell,
I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss and the worrying time you are going through.
Hospitals tend to give a second dose at day 7 as that is she the bloods are monitored. I was looking at a study where multiple doses were used and this was give as late as day 11 and 14. If you don not hear from your EPU tomorrow with regards to a second dose if your levels are still rising, or they won't fit you in again, I would contact the hospitals Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS). Ask them to question the medical team in your behalf as to why they appear to be deviating from normal protocols in your case.
Although I do not wish to alarm you, I must advise that you seek urgent medical advice with any worsening pain or bleeding, you develop shoulder tip pain or you feel dizzy and unwell.
I hope you manage to get answers and the treatment tomorrow.
Sending much love,
Karen x
