Hcg levels going down slow after 2 methotrexate

Post by AnnieK »

Hi all
Last week I had my bloods after my second Methotrexate dose and and my bloods had gone down from 1294 to 500. This week it's 360. The nurse said it's going down slowly now. Anyone else had this it's been nearly 6 weeks of going through this and I'm just emotionally and physically drained. I just keep crying as I want this over so I can grieve. Any support I would greatly appreciate.

I am so sorry to hear of your ectopic pregnancy loss,
It is good to see your levels are reducing. I am afraid it is difficult to predict how long it will take for your hormone levels reach non-pregnant levels. As we are all individual, our bodies respond differently to the drug and it depends on factors like how high levels reached and our unique physiology.
According to a study, for women with ectopic pregnancies in a Fallopian tube who are treated with methotrexate (with hCG of 1000–5000 IU/L before treatment), it takes an average of 28 days for the ectopic pregnancy to resolve (when medical treatment is successful). This is an average so some will be a little longer.
What I can say is that while it can take some time, it is not as invasive a procedure as surgery. It is also encouraging that your levels are falling steadily although I appreciate that it can be a drawn out process.
We will be here for you for as long as you need,
Sending much love,
Karen x
