Am I having another ectopic pregnancy?

Post by treezle »

I’m new to the forum, so apologies if I’m recovering an existing topic/thread. I had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy in September, which hospitalised me for 6 days because I lost a lot of blood. The thing about that ectopic pregnancy is that I felt I was pregnant for weeks before due to symtpoms like nausea, and generally just feeling ‘different’. So I took a pregnancy test and it was negative. Then later that day I got my period. This wasn’t just some random bleeding or discharge, it was exactly the same as my normal period would be in terms of type of bleeding, heaviness, number of days etc. So I thought nothing of it, thought it may have been a chemical pregnancy and went about my life. Then 21 days after that negative test, I was hospitalised and they confirmed with a urine test that I was pregnant. A complete shock to me. Fast forward to now, and I’ve had the same symptoms for a couple of weeks. I took a pregnancy test, it was negative, then my period started the next day. However, because if my experience last time, I’m absolutely terrified that I’m having another ectopic pregnancy. I’ve taken another pregnancy test which is still negative, but I still have the nausea symptoms. I obviously get access to early screening, but I don’t want them to laugh me out of the hospital? Should I request a scan? What’s the earliest it can be detected? Something just doesn’t feel right, but al the signs point to me not being pregnant. I don’t want to go through what I went through again, and risk losing my other fallopian tube.

Dear treezle,
I am so sorry to hear of the worrying time you are going through.
With a negative urine hCG, I would suggest speaking to your GP or EPU about the possibility of doing a blood test to measure hCG. This is extremely accurate, so if it is negative, you can be sure that you are not having another ectopic pregnancy.
At this stage it would be unlikely for them to be able to see anything on a scan.

Sending much love,
Karen x
